Social Media statement
Dear parent/carers, staff and young people,
You may be aware of a video circulating on social media which shows a pupil from Galashiels Academy being assaulted by another pupil.
The school was made aware of the incident last week, and appropriate action was taken, with Police Scotland also notified.
The incident, which took place outwith school grounds, has since been resolved with the parents and the young people involved.
Everyone in the Galashiels Community has a responsibility to respond to these situations in the appropriate manner. In the interests of the welfare of our young people, it is disappointing that the incident has been posted on social media.
To reassure parents/carers and pupils, the school and the Council takes any allegations of bullying very seriously and our staff work closely with families to investigate and ensure appropriate action is taken, including involving Police Scotland where necessary. We would encourage anyone with any concerns at all regarding bullying, to please get in touch with the relevant pastoral teacher or email the school at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Incidents of this kind are very rare. It is important to note that although that an incident has taken place we are proud of the school ethos of positive relationships between staff, pupils and parents/carers.
