Homework and home study are essential parts of most courses of study and it is school policy to establish the home study habit from first year onwards. Your mum, dad or carer will agree that you tackle homework assignments to the best of your ability. All subjects require constant revision and much of this has to be done at home.

To view a copy of the school's Homework Policy document, click here. Please note that the document will open in a new window.

Also, check out Homework page in the Learning and Teaching section of this website for details of each subject department's homework policy.

Getting Your Parents Involved

Hopefully, your mum, dad or carer may wish to involve themselves by asking, for example, questions taken from yours textbooks, workbooks or worksheets.

Scheduling Homework

It is a very good idea to set aside a fixed time each day (Monday – Friday) for home study and to show your jotter work to your mum, dad or carer. Homework could be written work, but it may also be reading notes or textbooks, note-learning or memorising, watching a specific television programme or reading a newspaper.

As a general guide, home study should be done on at least four evenings of the week. In your first year, at least forty minutes each evening should be spent in this way and every year more time should be spent on homework each evening.

Homework Diaries

You will be issued with homework diaries or personal planners and you are expected to carry them to school every day. These planners enable you to organise and record your home study programme sensibly and also serve to keep your mum, dad or carer informed as to how much homework you are doing. Your parent or carer may be asked, from time to time, to sign these diaries so as to show that your mum, dad or carer has seen them.

School Library

You have access to the school library from Monday to Thursday for an hour after school and this gives you an ideal opportunity to use all of the available resources, including computers, to help with homework and projects, folios etc.
