After consulting parents, pupils, Additional Needs Assistants and teachers, the school has produced a document called The Core Knowledge.
This is what we, at Galashiels Academy, think is important in a lesson. It is also linked to national guidelines contained in the HMIe document 'How Good is our School?'
We were grateful for contributions from outside the school. Interestingly, ‘enjoyment’ and ‘being treated fairly and with respect’ were what everyone thought were the most important and they feature prominently in the document.
The document is now being used for teacher self-evaluation and pupil-evaluation of teaching.
